Toyota to deal with Prius issue

Toyota has said that it is looking to resolve the brake issue in its latest Prius hybrid car amid reports the company has decided to recall the model in Japan.

According to the Yomiuri, a Japanese newspaper, Toyota is set to recall vehicles in Japan including the latest hybrid electric car and has informed domestic dealers.

The move will be announced early this week after consultation with the Japanese government, the newspaper said.

Meanwhile, Kyodo News agency has reported that the Japanese car giant has begun notifying dealers and that at least 170,000 vehicles will be recalled in the country.

Commenting on media reports, a spokeswoman for the firm said: "We will make an announcement soon on the action we plan to take." However, she did not confirm the reports.

Toyota has already recalled more than seven million other vehicles in the US, Europe and China over accelerator problem and floor mats that can get caught in the pedal.

The car maker has reportedly assured dealers that it is going to repair the brakes of Prius vehicles in the US, but it is unclear if the company will go for formal recall in the US.
